Maureen McCormick’s Secret to a Successful 40-Year Hollywood Marriage

Maureen McCormick, the beloved actress who played Marcia Brady in the iconic TV show “The Brady Bunch,” has been married to her husband, Michael Cummings, for an impressive 40 years. In a recent interview, the couple shared the secret to their enduring union, which has withstood the challenges of Hollywood’s spotlight. According to Cummings, the key to their success is having a sense of humor and not taking things too seriously. “You’ve got to let things go and just love the one you’re with. It’s a lifetime deal,” he said.

A Refreshing Start to Their Relationship

McCormick and Cummings’ relationship began in the 1980s, and they married in 1985. What made their meeting unique was that Cummings wasn’t starstruck by McCormick’s TV fame. “I didn’t know who she was, but I liked what I saw,” he said. “I saw those eyes and just fell in love.” McCormick found this lack of knowledge about her acting career “very refreshing.” She recalled, “[He had] no preconceived ideas about who I was. It was really wonderful.”

McCormick, 69, has spoken about how she had always wanted to get married and find someone special. She remembered looking into Cummings’ eyes at a concert and feeling like he was the one. The couple has prioritized family over fame, welcoming their daughter, Natalie Michelle Cummings, in 1989.

Overcoming Challenges and Finding Sobriety

McCormick has been open about her struggles with drug addiction and bulimia in the past. She battled cocaine addiction for five years after “The Brady Bunch” ended and detailed her experiences in her 2008 memoir, “Here’s the Story.” McCormick has credited her husband with helping her get clean, saying, “My husband was a big part of that for me, along with my mom, dad, family, and some really close friends.” She has been sober for over 40 years and feels “incredibly lucky” to have found sobriety.

Cummings gave McCormick an ultimatum after her last relapse, telling her that if she ever did the drug again, he would leave. This wake-up call helped McCormick to seek help and overcome her addiction. Today, the couple is grateful for their enduring relationship, with McCormick saying, “I feel very blessed to have him in my life.”

Celebrating 40 Years of Marriage

McCormick and Cummings are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this year. When asked about the secret to their successful marriage, McCormick said, “Celebrate the differences.” The couple has learned to appreciate their unique qualities and not take things too seriously. As McCormick said, “It’s better than ever. We feel very grateful and thankful to have found each other.”
