Timothy Busfield Turns Himself In Amid Child Sex Abuse Allegations
Renowned actor and director Timothy Busfield has surrendered to authorities in New Mexico after an arrest warrant was issued against him on charges of child sex abuse. According to a spokesperson for the Albuquerque Police Department, Busfield turned himself in and was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County on a child sex abuse charge, which includes two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor.
A criminal complaint filed by an investigator with the Albuquerque Police Department alleges that a child reported being inappropriately touched by Busfield on the set of the TV series “The Cleaning Lady,” which Busfield directed and acted in. The complaint states that the acts allegedly occurred between November 2022 and spring 2024, and the child was afraid to report the incident due to Busfield’s position as the director.
Busfield has denied the allegations, stating in a video provided to TMZ that “I did not do anything to those little boys” and that the claims against him are “all lies.” His attorney, Stanton “Larry” Stein, has also released a statement saying that Busfield is “innocent and is determined to clear his name” and that the claims against him are “completely false.”
The criminal complaint provides further details about the alleged abuse, stating that the child reported being touched by Busfield on private areas over his clothing on multiple occasions. The child’s twin brother also reported being touched by Busfield, but did not specify where. The complaint also notes that the boys’ mother reported the abuse to Child Protective Services, and that one of the boys has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety.
Investigation and Response
The investigation into the allegations began in November 2024, when a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque reported the incident to authorities. The boys’ parents had taken them to the hospital at the recommendation of a law firm. The complaint states that Busfield suggested that the boys’ mother was seeking revenge for her children being replaced on the series, but this claim has not been substantiated.
Busfield’s wife, actress Melissa Gilbert, has deactivated her Instagram account amid the allegations and has indicated through a publicist that she will not speak publicly about the matter at this time. Gilbert’s publicist stated that her focus is on supporting and caring for their family and that she stands with and supports her husband.
