Minnesota Bound Makes the Move to KSTP
After three decades of entertaining and educating audiences on KARE 11, the classic outdoors show “Minnesota Bound” is making a significant change by moving to KSTP, starting this weekend. This shift marks a new chapter in the show’s history, which has been a staple of Minnesota’s outdoor enthusiasts since its launch in 1995 by Ron Schara, the Star Tribune’s outdoors columnist at the time.
A New Home but the Same Spirit
Beginning January 4, new episodes of “Minnesota Bound” will air weekly at 11 p.m. on Sunday nights on KSTP-TV (Channel 5) and again at 9:30 p.m. the following Saturday on KSTC-TV (Channel 45 or 5.2, depending on the viewer’s provider). This move is anticipated to broaden the show’s reach and continue its legacy of storytelling for the next 30 years, as stated by Scott Fransen, CEO of Ron Schara Productions, the company behind “Minnesota Bound.” The show’s format, which has been successful for over 850 episodes, is not expected to change with the network switch, ensuring that fans will continue to enjoy the content they love.
The show was initially hosted by Ron Schara, who was accompanied by his trusty black Labrador retrievers named Raven, spanning three generations. After Ron Schara’s retirement in 2018, the hosting duties were taken over by his daughter, Laura Schara, and outdoorsman and journalist Bill Sherck. Despite his retirement, Ron Schara has continued to make appearances on the show and has remained engaged with his audience, notably through his 2021 book, “Ron Schara’s Minnesota: Mostly True Tales of a Life Outdoors.”
A Legacy of Outdoor Storytelling
The decision to move “Minnesota Bound” to KSTP is seen as a strategic step to expand the show’s audience and secure its place as a leading outdoors program in Minnesota. With its rich history and dedication to sharing the stories of Minnesota’s great outdoors, “Minnesota Bound” has become an institution for those who enjoy the natural beauty and recreational opportunities the state has to offer. As the show embarks on this new chapter, fans and newcomers alike can look forward to more exciting adventures and insights into the world of outdoor enthusiasts.
