Revolutionizing Dental Care: How AI is Transforming the Industry
As AI technology continues to advance, it’s making its way into various aspects of our lives, including the dental industry. A Swedish startup, Dentio, is at the forefront of this revolution, using AI-powered software to streamline administrative tasks and improve the overall dental care experience. The company has recently secured $2.3 million in pre-seed funding, led by Andreessen Horowitz, to support its ambitious plans.

The Problem with Traditional Dental Care
According to a 2024 Swedish report, 81% of young dentists cited stress and time pressure as their greatest challenge, while 47% pointed specifically to administrative tasks. This is where Dentio comes in, aiming to reduce the administrative burden on dentists and improve the overall efficiency of dental care. The company’s AI-powered software supports everything from clinical notes and tooth status analysis to referrals, treatment plans, and even procedure codes generated during treatment.
The Solution: AI-Powered Software
Dentio’s AI assistant has already shown promising results, with an average time savings of five to seven minutes per patient visit, according to a survey of 50 dentists using the software. Moreover, 88% of the dentists reported increased job satisfaction and reduced stress at work. With its new funding, Dentio plans to expand its services to other Nordic countries, including Norway and Finland, before launching a broader European expansion later this year.
A Growing Market
The global dental services market is expected to grow by nearly 5% this year, reaching $890 billion by 2031, according to Mordor Intelligence. Dental clinics, which account for the bulk of the market, are expected to drive this growth. Other companies, such as Overjet and Perceptive, are also using AI to improve dental care, with Overjet reaching a $550 million valuation last year and Perceptive raising $30 million from investors, including Y Combinator and Ed Zuckerberg.
As the dental industry continues to evolve, it’s clear that AI will play a significant role in shaping its future. With companies like Dentio at the forefront, we can expect to see improved efficiency, reduced administrative burdens, and better overall care for patients. As Dentio’s co-founder, Elias Afrasiabi, said, “Our thesis from day one has been straightforward: we want to get rid of the administrative burden in dental care.” With its innovative AI-powered software and ambitious plans, Dentio is well on its way to achieving this goal.
