Current Hurricane Outlook
As of September 9, 2025, the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf are experiencing broadly hostile conditions, making it unlikely for tropical development to occur this week. According to long-range computer forecasts, a disturbance is expected to move off Africa by the end of the week, but it is likely to either turn north or dissipate.

Hurricane History
On this date in 1965, Hurricane Betsy made landfall in Louisiana as a Category 4 storm, causing significant damage and flooding in the Miami metro area and the Bahamas. The storm’s unpredictable path and intensity made forecasting a challenge, with Hurricane Watches issued for North Carolina before the storm ultimately turned north.
