FOX Weather is your Hurricane HQ.
(FOX Weather)
As the winter weather pattern begins to settle over the Gulf, Caribbean, and tropical Atlantic, hostile upper-level winds are increasingly spreading across the tropical belt, signaling the end of hurricane season for the U.S. and surrounding areas.
Recap of the 2025 Hurricane Season
The 2025 hurricane season produced 13 named storms, 7 hurricanes, with 4 of them being Category 3 and above, including 3 Category 5 hurricanes. This is only the second time in recorded history that three Category 5 hurricanes formed in one season, with the first occurrence being in 2005.
According to the National Hurricane Center, the average number of named storms from 1991 to 2020 was 14, with 7 hurricanes, and 3 of them being Category 3 and above. The 2025 numbers are very close to these averages.

One of the most significant events of the 2025 hurricane season was Hurricane Melissa, which was as strong and perfectly formed as any hurricane on record. It peaked just before landfall, causing catastrophic damage and loss of life.
Research and Analysis of Hurricane Melissa
Hurricane Melissa is expected to generate a lot of research due to its unusual behavior, particularly its failure to undergo an eyewall replacement cycle (ERC), which would have weakened the winds and expanded the storm’s breadth. The National Hurricane Center will publish a report on the storm in the spring with their final analysis.
The people of Jamaica, Cuba, and Haiti are still recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Melissa, and it is essential that we continue to support them in their time of need.
Conclusion
As we celebrate a hurricane season with no significant impacts in the U.S., we must not forget the devastating effects of Hurricane Melissa on the people of Jamaica, Cuba, and Haiti. For more information and analysis on the 2025 hurricane season, visit Here
