Cardi B Testifies in Civil Suit, Denies Assault Allegations

Cardi B returned to the witness stand on Wednesday in a civil suit brought by a security guard who alleged that the rapper assaulted her in a 2018 incident in the hallway outside a Beverly Hills obstetrician’s office. The security guard, Emani Ellis, is seeking $24 million in damages, claiming that Cardi B scratched her with one of her nail extensions, among other allegations.

Cardi B reiterated in her testimony that she never touched, scratched, or spat at the security guard, who she believed was taking video of her with her cellphone. The rapper stated that the pair went chest-to-chest and exchanged heated words, but nothing more. Her defense was supported by the testimony of the obstetrician and his receptionist, who both stated that they did not see Cardi B hit Ellis.

Testimony from Obstetrician and Receptionist

The obstetrician, Dr. David Finke, testified that he saw the security guard cause an injury to his receptionist, Tierra Malcolm, and also hit her shoulder. He further stated that Ellis had no injuries to her face. Malcolm told jurors that she saw Ellis corner Cardi B, and when she got between them, the guard reached for the rapper, causing Malcolm to suffer a cut on her forehead.

Both Finke and Malcolm testified that they never saw Cardi B hit Ellis. The receptionist acknowledged that she did not see the entire interaction between the pair but stated that Cardi B was behind her when she was injured, making it unlikely that the rapper could have caused the injury with one of her nails.

Cardi B’s Testimony

Under cross-examination by Ellis’ attorney, Cardi B acknowledged that she and Ellis were chest-to-chest as expletives were traded. However, she maintained that she did not assault the security guard. The rapper also testified that when a doctor’s staffer asked Ellis what had occurred, Ellis said, “The b— just hit me.” Cardi B expressed confusion, stating that she did not hit Ellis.

Cardi B’s testimony was supported by her physical condition at the time of the incident. The rapper, who was 4 months pregnant and 5’3″ tall, weighing 130 pounds, stated that she would not have tried to fight the guard, who was larger than her. She also joked about being “disabled” during the incident due to her pregnancy, drawing laughter from the courtroom.

Conclusion of the Trial

The defense ended at the end of Wednesday’s session. The trial has sparked interest due to the high-profile nature of the case and the significant amount of damages being sought. The outcome of the trial remains to be seen, but Cardi B’s testimony and the supporting statements from the obstetrician and receptionist have provided a different perspective on the incident.
