Former Treasurer of Lakeville Gymnastics Booster Clubs Accused of Embezzling Over $80,000
A now-former treasurer of two Lakeville gymnastics booster clubs is facing felony theft charges for allegedly stealing over $80,000 from the groups’ bank accounts. Holly Nichole Flood, 46, of Lakeville, was charged by summons in Dakota County District Court with two counts of felony theft in connection with the embezzlement.
Background and Investigation
Flood served as treasurer of one club from April 2019 to March 2024 and the other from February 2019 to June 2024, when she resigned after a financial review of the clubs’ accounts. The review revealed a large number of checks written to Flood, ATM withdrawals at casinos, and other spending not tied to the clubs. When club members asked Flood for account information and financial documents, she refused to cooperate, prompting a report to the Lakeville police in July 2024.
Allegations and Evidence
According to the complaint, Flood initially claimed she had paid for club expenses out of her personal finances and would later reimburse herself. However, when questioned further, she admitted to taking money from the clubs due to personal financial problems. She also stated that she had gambled to pay her expenses and attempted to pay back the clubs’ money. An analysis of the clubs’ financial records and Flood’s casino gaming records revealed that she had stolen nearly $51,000 from one club account and over $32,000 from the other, with estimated losses of $41,000 at casinos between 2022 and 2023.
Consequences and Next Steps
Flood is scheduled to make a first court appearance on December 9. Although she paid back one club about $30,300, mostly through a cashier’s check after her resignation, the allegations of embezzlement have serious consequences. The case highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in financial management, particularly in organizations that rely on volunteer treasurers.
