Fiery 10 Freeway Crash Claims Three Lives, Truck Driver Identified

A devastating multi-vehicle collision on the 10 Freeway in Ontario has left three people dead and several others injured. The crash, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, involved a big-rig truck and seven other vehicles, resulting in a massive pileup and subsequent fires. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the truck driver, identified as 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh, has been arrested and charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs causing injury.

Crash Details and Investigation

The collision happened around 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, as traffic was slowing down on the westbound 10 Freeway near the 15 Freeway interchange. Dashboard camera video obtained by ABC7 shows the moment the truck slams into the car in front of it, continuing to plow forward through several other passenger cars before slamming into another truck. Flames can be seen at the edge of the camera as one of the passenger cars ignites. The CHP spokesperson, Officer Joe Garcia, confirmed that four semitrucks and four passenger cars were involved in the crash, with one of the passenger cars being engulfed in flames.

Among the victims were former Pomona High School assistant basketball coach Clarence Nelson and his wife, Lisa, according to reporting by KTLA. The high school posted a photo of the coach with the words “RIP Coach Nelson and his wife.” The crash resulted in a multilane closure, causing significant disruptions to rush-hour traffic. Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, and four were transported to hospitals for treatment. By Wednesday night, all but one of the hospitalized individuals, including Singh, had been released from the hospital.

Arrest and Charges

Jashanpreet Singh, the 21-year-old truck driver, was arrested by California Highway Patrol officers at the site of the crash on Tuesday afternoon. He was booked on felony charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department inmate log. Singh is being held without bail while awaiting his initial hearing, scheduled for Thursday. The CHP spokesperson, Rodrigo Jimenez, confirmed that Singh had been released from the hospital and was being held in custody.

The incident is a stark reminder of the importance of safe driving practices and the devastating consequences of reckless behavior on the roads.
