Introduction to “It: Welcome to Derry”
Just in time for Halloween, HBO is expanding the universe of “It” with a new prequel series, “It: Welcome to Derry,” premiering on October 22 on HBO and the HBO Max streaming service. The series comes from three of the people behind the 2017 “It” film and its 2019 sequel “It: Chapter Two” — director Andy Muschietti, producer Barbara Muschietti, and co-producer Jason Fuchs.

In the new series, a couple moves to Derry, Maine with their son, just as a local boy disappears. Set in 1962, the show will continue to trace the origins of the murderous, shape-shifting entity known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown (played by Bill Skarsgård, reprising his role from the 2017 and 2019 films). The series will explore the dark history of Derry and the evil forces that have haunted the town for centuries.
