UCLA Football Program Under Fire from Frustrated Fans

The UCLA football program is facing intense criticism from its fans, with many calling for the replacement of head coach DeShaun Foster and athletic director Martin Jarmond. The team’s poor performance, including a recent loss to New Mexico, has sparked outrage and disappointment among fans who feel that the program is not living up to its potential.

Some fans, like Bruce Dunklin, a 1975 UCLA graduate, have expressed their frustration with the team’s consistent mediocrity. “I am now officially in the ‘I don’t care about UCLA Football anymore’ camp,” Dunklin wrote. “While every once in a while UCLA will have a somewhat successful season, the best they seem to be able to do is be invited to a second-tier bowl game.” Dunklin also criticized Coach Foster, stating that he is “very clearly in way over his head” and predicting that he will be gone after this season.

Criticisms of Coach Foster and the Athletic Department

Other fans have also voiced their discontent with Coach Foster and the athletic department. Thomas Auyong, a fan from Diamond Bar, described the DeShaun Foster experiment as a “dismal failure” and stated that the team is “undisciplined and unprepared.” Auyong also expressed concern about the potential consequences of the team’s poor performance, including the loss of NIL sponsors and empty stadiums.

Ed Villanueva, a fan from Chino Hills, was even more scathing in his criticism, calling Coach Foster the “worst head coach in UCLA history.” Villanueva also questioned the team’s weight program, stating that the players are getting “pushed around” on the field. Chris Sorce, a fan from Fountain Valley, suggested that the athletic department consider dropping the football program to a lower division or eliminating it altogether to balance the budget.

A Call for Change

Some fans, like Christopher Armen, a 25-year season-ticket holder, are calling for a change in leadership. Armen expressed his disappointment with the hiring of Coach Foster, who had no prior head-coaching experience. “It sadly is now painfully obvious that Jarmond and Foster should be replaced with more experienced and qualified candidates,” Armen wrote.

The criticisms from fans are a clear indication that the UCLA football program is in need of a turnaround. With the team’s poor performance and the athletic department’s questionable decisions, it remains to be seen how the program will recover.
