Lola Young says she’s able to “put a stamp on music” following breakout success

Date:

British singer-songwriter Lola Young has been making waves in the music industry with her breakout hit “Messy,” which has topped charts worldwide and left audiences stunned. However, behind her overnight success lies a story of perseverance and struggle. At just 24 years old, Young has been writing songs since she was 11, and her journey to stardom has been marked by both creative triumphs and personal challenges.

Young’s recent debut at Coachella was a defining moment in her career, with the massive audience response leaving her feeling both thrilled and bewildered. “I felt a bit confused to be honest,” she recalled in an interview with “CBS Mornings.” “It was absolutely bonkers. Just the amount of people that were standing there screaming. It was like, ‘For me, like, what?’ Do you know what I mean?”

Overcoming Adversity and Finding Success

Young’s path to success was far from easy. She faced a difficult childhood, which she says fueled her passion for music and drove her to pursue her dreams. “I went through a lot. I had a difficult, in some ways, a difficult upbringing,” she explained. “I had this kind of urge, this like burning desire to escape in any way, shape or form I could.” Music became her outlet and source of achievement, and she began performing at a young age.

A pivotal moment in her career came when she was 16 and performed at the Bedford Pub in 2017. It was there that she met her manager, Nick Shymansky, who had previously managed the late Amy Winehouse. Shymansky was immediately drawn to Young’s talent and character, saying, “I walked into the room just when you went on stage, and I was like, ‘Who is this?'” The encounter changed both their lives, with Young finding a mentor and supporter in Shymansky.

Artistic Inspiration and Dedication

Young draws inspiration from legendary artists like Joni Mitchell, whose album “Blue” had a profound impact on her when she first heard it as a teenager. “I remember hearing ‘A Case of You’ and I just don’t know why, but I just cried. And I thought, if I can do that to somebody then I’ve done, then I think I’ve done something,” she said. Her dedication to music runs deep, and she admits that it can be all-consuming at times. “I’m very serious about it. Yeah. I sometimes wish that it was just a bit less deep for me. But it is not,” she confessed.

Despite her artistic success, Young has faced severe personal struggles in recent years, including mental health challenges that lasted several years. However, she says she’s now the happiest she’s ever been, and is learning to manage the pressures of fame. “I want to put a stamp on music because all the best, all the people that I love or the best artists that I love have done that,” she said, looking to the future.

As Young continues to make waves in the music industry, her story serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and creativity. With her unique voice and talent, she is sure to leave a lasting mark on the music world. For more on Lola Young’s breakout success and her hit single “Messy,” visit Here
