Luka Doncic helps Lakers maintain off Jazz for fourth win in a row

Lakers Extend Winning Streak Despite Shooting Slump

The Los Angeles Lakers have proven that they can win games even when their shooting is off. On Sunday, they defeated the Utah Jazz 108-106 at the Delta Center, despite shooting a mere 26.3% from three-point range. This victory marks their fourth consecutive win, a testament to the team’s resilience and ability to adapt to challenging situations.

Luka Doncic led the team with 33 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists, but even he struggled with his three-point shot, making only three of 12 attempts. Austin Reaves also had a tough night, shooting one of eight from beyond the arc, but still managed to contribute 22 points and 10 rebounds. Doncic acknowledged that the team’s shooting woes are not a major concern, saying “We didn’t play our best game and we still find a way to win. That’s what great teams do.”

Defying Expectations with Unconventional Success

The Lakers’ success this season has been nothing short of remarkable, given their struggles with three-point shooting. They currently lead the league in field-goal percentage (50.9%) and shoot an impressive 62.2% from two-point range. While they rank fifth-worst in three-point shooting percentage (33.3%), their effective field-goal percentage is still an impressive 57.2%, good for fourth in the league. As Doncic jokingly noted, “Obviously, I think me and AR haven’t hit a shot this season, so I’m not worried at all. Once we start making [shots], it’s gonna be really tough to guard.”

Coach JJ Redick praised his team’s togetherness and adaptability, citing their ability to overcome shooting slumps and still compete at a high level. The Lakers’ strong bond and chemistry have been evident in their performances, and Doncic credits the team’s recent break as a key factor in their success. During this time, the team engaged in various bonding activities, including a visit from Snoop Dogg and a team-wide pickleball tournament, which Doncic won in a semifinal matchup against Redick.

Key Contributions from Role Players

One player who made a significant impact in the game against the Jazz was Maxi Kleber, who entered the game in the second half after Deandre Ayton left with a right knee contusion. Kleber’s physicality and defensive presence helped the Lakers outscore the Jazz 16-9 during his time on the floor in the third quarter. Reaves praised Kleber’s performance, saying “He was one the best players on the floor for us tonight. Just energy, effort, the way he plays, the plays he made.”

LeBron James, playing in his second game of the season after being sidelined with sciatica, contributed 17 points and eight assists. The Lakers’ ability to rely on different players to step up and make key contributions has been a hallmark of their success this season. As they continue to navigate the challenges of the NBA season, their strong team chemistry and adaptability will be essential in overcoming adversity.
