St. Paul Shooting Incident: Squad Car Possibly Hit by Bullet
Police in St. Paul are investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Friday night, during which a Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office squad car was potentially hit by a bullet. The incident took place in the 1600 block of East Maryland Avenue, where St. Paul police officers were assisting deputies with an unrelated traffic stop at around 8:40 p.m.
According to Nikki Muehlhausen, a St. Paul Police Department public information officer, officers heard gunfire during the traffic stop and subsequently found a man with a single gunshot wound to his armpit in a nearby parking lot. The man was transported to Regions Hospital, where he underwent surgery for his non-life-threatening injury.
Investigation and Search for Shooter
The shooter is believed to have fled the scene in a vehicle, and an active search is currently underway. While the investigation is still in its early stages, authorities do not think that the traffic stop is related to the shooting. Muehlhausen stated, “Right now, investigators do not believe the traffic stop is related to the shooting.” It is also believed that a Ramsey County squad was hit by a round, but fortunately, no deputies or officers were injured.
The incident highlights the risks and uncertainties that law enforcement officers face while performing their duties. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and to apprehend the individual responsible.
