Former KSTP-TV Meteorologist Wren Clair’s Lawsuit Against Station Dismissed
Attorneys for former KSTP-TV meteorologist Wren Clair and the St. Paul-based TV station have jointly requested that a judge dismiss her lawsuit against KSTP, according to recent court filings. The stipulation for dismissal with prejudice, filed on Tuesday, means that the lawsuit cannot be refiled. Clair, who filed the lawsuit under her legal name of Renee Fox, alleged sexual harassment and retaliation at KSTP, claiming she was abruptly terminated after reporting the conduct.

Background of the Lawsuit
KSTP, in its legal response filed in court, stated that Fox was terminated due to poor performance, which she was repeatedly coached on. The response also denied that she was subjected to sex-based harassment. The lawsuit was referred to mediation by Ramsey County District Court Judge Reynaldo Aligada Jr. in a November 14 scheduling order. However, the court file does not indicate whether mediation occurred or what led to the joint request to dismiss the lawsuit.
According to Leanne Fuith, a Mitchell Hamline School of Law professor who practiced employment law, a plaintiff and defendant may agree to a stipulated dismissal when both sides decide it is no longer necessary or beneficial to continue the litigation. “The parties may have reached a settlement that resolves all or part of the dispute, or they may stipulate to dismissal to avoid further litigation or for other strategic reasons,” she explained.
Wren Clair’s Career and Current Status
Clair, who grew up in Hopkins and attended the University of Minnesota, was a morning show meteorologist in Boston before joining KSTP in 2018. She took over as the prime-time weekday evening meteorologist for “5 Eyewitness News” after chief meteorologist Dave Dahl retired in 2020. However, she was demoted in 2024 and terminated in February. Clair later became a meteorologist for KARE-TV in May but announced on Instagram in September that she and the TV station had “agreed to part ways.”
Clair’s attorney, Paul Schinner, stated that “the matter has been resolved” but could not comment further. Kirk Varner, previously KSTP’s news director, expressed confidence in his ability to defend himself against the allegations and welcomed the resolution of the matter.
