Nick Reiner to Appear in Court for Murder of Parents, Filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner
Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, is scheduled to be arraigned in a Los Angeles court for the murders of his parents. The couple was found stabbed to death in their home in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood on December 14. According to the L.A. County medical examiner, they died from “multiple sharp force injuries.”
Reiner is charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. However, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that his office has not yet decided which sentence to pursue. Reiner’s attorney, Alan Jackson, has hinted at “very, very complex and serious issues” associated with the case, which need to be thoroughly examined.
Background and Previous Incidents
Details have emerged about Nick Reiner’s struggles with addiction. In 2018, he shared stories on a podcast about his experiences with drug use and destructive behavior, including punching walls and destroying a TV after his parents asked him to leave their guesthouse. Police records obtained by CBS News show that the LAPD responded to the Reiners’ Los Angeles home seven times between 2013 and 2022, including twice on the day the couple was found dead.
These incidents include a welfare check and a mental health call in 2019, as well as minor disturbances in 2013, 2014, and 2017. The bodies of Rob and Michele Reiner were discovered in their home on the afternoon of December 14, and Nick Reiner was arrested several hours later outside a gas station convenience store in South L.A. without resisting arrest.
Family Statement and Reaction
Rob and Michele Reiner’s other two children, Jake and Romy Reiner, released a statement expressing their “unimaginable pain” after the loss of their parents. They described their parents as not only their family but also their best friends. The community is still reeling from the shock of the tragic event, and the investigation is ongoing.
