Nor’easter Brings Severe Weather Conditions to the East Coast
A powerful Nor’easter is strengthening off the East Coast, expecting to bring significant impacts from the Carolinas to New England. The storm’s effects are already being felt in the Outer Banks, where steady rains and blustery winds are causing coastal flooding and heavy surf. According to the FOX Forecast Center, winds are set to increase in gusts to 35-50 mph, triggering 2-4 feet of coastal flooding to areas along the Outer Banks.
The worst of the impacts from the Nor’easter are hanging off the coast for now, but it is expected to bring rough surf, coastal flooding, heavy rain, and damaging winds to areas like Charleston. FOX Weather Meteorologist Bayne Froney reports from Charleston on Saturday morning, where strong winds and light rain were starting.

Nor’easter’s Impacts on the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast
The storm’s impacts will spread north on Sunday to the coastal Mid-Atlantic states and Northeast, with primary concerns being coastal flooding and potentially damaging wind gusts, as well as heavy rains. Over 25 million people remain under Coastal Flood Alerts along a 500-mile stretch across much of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast coasts through Boston through Monday.

High Wind Watches remain in place from Long Island through coastal New Jersey and Delaware for gusts up to 60 mph, lasting into Monday morning. Coastal flooding will also be an issue from Virginia through New England, with some water level forecasts for southern New Jersey and Delaware potentially rivaling among the highest on record.

State of Emergency Declared in New Jersey
Acting New Jersey Governor Tahesha Way has declared a statewide emergency starting midday Saturday due to the storm’s threat. The declaration will help speed up emergency services and free up more resources for storm preparations and response. Heavy rain will also increase the risk of flash flooding, with a widespread 2-3 inches of rain possible along the coast through Tuesday.

According to FOX Weather Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross, “There’s going to be huge disruptions if this forecast works out anything like this. Huge disruptions to everything in the Tri-State area here.” Norcross noted that the winds would be piling water up at the coast, pushing water into New York Harbor, Barnegat Bay, and other bays and rivers along the Jersey shore.

Nor’easter’s Effects Linger into the Start of the Workweek
Into Monday morning, heavy rain and gusty winds will still largely be at play anywhere from Atlantic City to Boston, according to the FOX Forecast Center. Coastal flooding will have likely peaked on Sunday when the winds were the strongest, but even minor-to-moderate coastal flooding will be in play. Some of the Jersey Shore may dry out later in the day Monday, but from Long Island to Boston should prepare for a washout and overall raw, blustery day.
