Randy Travis’ Wife Recalls Defying Medical Advice to Pull the Plug During Country Star’s Stroke Recovery Battle

Randy Travis’ wife, Mary, has opened up about the country star’s harrowing health battle, revealing that she was advised by doctors to “pull the plug” on her husband’s life during his debilitating stroke. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Mary described the crucial moment when medical professionals told her that Travis’ vitals weren’t doing well and that it was time to say goodbye.

However, Mary refused to give up on her husband, recalling the moment when she went to his bedside and he squeezed her hand, with a tear rolling down his face. “That’s when I knew that Randy Travis was gonna make it because he squeezed my hand and a tear went down his face. And I said, ‘He’s still fighting,'” Mary said.

A Long and Arduous Recovery

Travis’ life-altering stroke occurred in 2013, and he was hospitalized for congestive heart failure tied to viral cardiomyopathy. Over the past decade, the musician has made a remarkable recovery, thanks in part to the use of artificial intelligence (AI), which has enabled him to continue making music and touring. Mary explained that they use AI to create new songs, with the technology able to use Travis’ vocal stems to create a whole new song from an incomplete one.

Mary and Travis have been using AI to make music, with the country star recently releasing new songs, including “Where That Came From” and “Horses in Heaven.” The couple has also kicked off the “More Life Tour,” with Mary anticipating that Travis will continue to use AI to make more music in the future. “I think there’ll be more songs. I think that Randy’s interested in doing more songs,” she said.

Award and Recognition

Travis was recently honored with the ACM Milestone Award, which Mary believes perfectly highlights her husband’s life. “The Milestone Award, I guess just the terminology itself ‘milestone’ means a lot of different things based on the roads that Randy has traveled, the things that he’s done, the things he’s accomplished, and the things he’s been through,” Mary said. The couple was greeted by a standing ovation when they took to the stage to accept the award, with Jamey Johnson also performing Travis’ song, “Three Wooden Crosses.”
