Renowned Architect Robert A.M. Stern Passes Away at 86
Acclaimed architect Robert A.M. Stern, a prominent figure in American architecture, has died at the age of 86, according to a statement from his firm, Robert A. M. Stern Architects (RAMSA). The statement confirmed that Stern passed away comfortably at his home on Thursday, although the cause of death was not specified.
Throughout his illustrious career, Stern gained recognition for his unique blend of postmodernism and contextual design, drawing inspiration from historic and traditional styles. His notable works include the iconic 15 Central Park West luxury condominium in Manhattan, which features a recognizable limestone exterior and has attracted numerous prominent and wealthy tenants since its opening in 2008.

Stern’s impressive portfolio includes a wide range of projects, such as the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas, the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, and the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan. He also designed Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts in Florida and Cal State Northridge’s Manzanita Hall, which was completed in 2003.
In addition to his architectural achievements, Stern served as the dean of the Yale School of Architecture from 1998 to 2016 and previously directed Columbia University’s Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture.
