The Worst Horror Movies of 2025: A Halloween Warning
If we have winners, then, in most cases, we must also have losers. And that most certainly is the case in the horror movie genre. Yet, for better or worse, horror completists try to watch both the good and bad ones. According to a recent review, the following horror films are the ones to avoid this Halloween season.
The Bottom 5 Horror Movies of 2025
We advise you to steer clear of these 5 horror films, which failed to impress critics and audiences alike. We’ll start with the worst of the worst and slowly creep to the merely miserable.
1. “28 Years Later” – A Disappointing Sequel
It was one of the most highly anticipated horror films going into 2025, but it turned out to be the most disappointing one. The film’s uninspired and convoluted plot, which draws from “Apocalypse Now” and “Walking Dead,” makes it a mess from start to finish. With Ralph Fiennes’ character falling flat, it’s a shame to see such a promising concept go to waste.
2. “Him” – A Missed Opportunity
Director Justin Tipping’s attempt to make a point about society’s emphasis on the G.O.A.T. falls flat in this horror/sports epic. Despite its worthy message, the film’s execution is poor, failing to deliver in both the horror and sports genres.
3. “The Long Walk” – A Stephen King Adaptation Gone Wrong
While one Stephen King adaptation, “The Monkey,” hit it out of the park in 2025, “The Long Walk” should have never gotten into the game. Published in 1979 under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, this adaptation fails at the fundamentals, from simple dialogue to character development. It’s a bore of a film that should have been called “The Long Watch.”
4. “Death of a Unicorn” – A One-Trick Pony
This film’s only joke, “Oh, no, it’s a killer unicorn!” wears off quickly, leaving nothing else to offer. With no substance or originality, it’s a shame to see such a unique concept go to waste. Watch “Bambi: The Reckoning” instead.
5. “I Know What You Did Last Summer” – A Lackluster Remake
It pains critics to see this one on the list, given their fondness for the 1997 original and its goofy sequel. However, the lack of quality writing and fresh ideas dooms this project. While it’s still better than the 2006 sequel, it’s a disappointing remake that fails to live up to its predecessors.
