High School Football State Playoff Games to Watch
This week, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) regional football games are heating up, with several top teams vying for a spot in the state championships. Two of the most exciting matchups are scheduled to take place on Friday and Saturday, featuring some of the best high school football teams in the state.
Friday’s Division 1-AA Showdown
On Friday, the San Diego Cathedral Dons (10-2) will face off against the Los Alamitos Griffins (12-2) at Long Beach Veterans Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The Griffins, led by quarterback Colin Creason, have been on a roll, with a strong offensive line and versatile running backs. However, they will face a tough challenge in stopping the run against the Dons, who boast a national recruit in Honor Fa’alave-Johnson, with over 1,000 yards rushing. Despite the Griffins’ impressive record, the Dons’ strong running game gives them the edge, making them the likely winner.
Saturday’s Division 3-A Matchup
On Saturday, the Delano Kennedy Thunderbirds (11-3) will travel to Carson to take on the City Section Open Division champion Colts (10-3) at 6 p.m. The Colts have undergone a significant transformation since the beginning of the season, with quarterback Chris Fields III leading the charge. Their defense has been impressive, allowing just nine points in three playoff games, and they are now eyeing a state title. However, they will need to stop Cristian Hernandez, who has racked up over 1,200 yards rushing, to come out on top. Given their recent performance, the Colts are the likely winners in this matchup.
