Funches has been a vocal advocate for the autism community, often speaking about his experiences as a parent to his 21-year-old son Malcolm, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2. In an Instagram post from 2022, Funches expressed his gratitude to his son for teaching him about autism awareness, stating, “Happy Autism Awareness Day! Thank you to my son who brought autism awareness into my life, and continually teaches me so much every day.”
Funches’ Journey to Diagnosis
During his time on “Traitors,” Funches’ interactions with his fellow cast members were sometimes perceived as curt, which led to speculation about his behavior. However, Funches has since revealed that these interactions were a catalyst for his own diagnosis. He shared on Threads, “I honestly didn’t know I myself had Autism I thought I was just an ally and parent of an autistic child, but the way I felt I wasn’t being comprehended or understood while I thought I was being direct and seeing some of my own mannerisms made start the process of going to get a diagnosis.”
