Twins Fall to Angels in Series Finale
The Minnesota Twins suffered a tough loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, with a final score of 4-3. The game was marked by a series of missed opportunities for the Twins, including a crucial play in the eighth inning that ultimately decided the outcome.
James Outman made a pair of impressive plays in center field, but it was the ball that got away that proved costly. Bryce Teodosio’s long fly ball landed just out of Outman’s reach, resulting in a leadoff triple in the bottom of the eighth inning. Teodosio quickly scored the go-ahead run on a Mike Trout sacrifice fly, securing the win for the Angels.
Post-Game Analysis
Twins manager Rocco Baldelli acknowledged the difficulty of the play, stating that it’s part of the game. “The mentality that I want all of our outfielders to have is to want every ball, want every ball hit at him and want the opportunity to make a great play. We didn’t make it today, unfortunately.” Baldelli’s comments highlight the importance of capitalizing on opportunities, which the Twins failed to do in this game.
The Twins had several chances to take the lead, but were unable to convert. Trevor Larnach was thrown out at the plate in the first inning, and the team left the bases loaded in both the third and fourth innings. They finished 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position, stranding 11 on base. Despite these missed opportunities, the Twins were able to score three runs via the long ball, with Outman’s second home run of the series and Byron Buxton’s 31st blast of the season.
Injury Updates
David Festa’s search for answers continues after meeting with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Keith Meister on Tuesday. Meister diagnosed Festa with neurological thoracic outlet syndrome, which occurs when the brachial plexus nerve is impeded. Festa has been referred to a thoracic surgeon in the Dallas area, who will determine the best course of treatment. Injections and surgery are potential options, with the latter being the “worst-case scenario.”
Christian Vázquez, who has been dealing with a shoulder infection, has been making progress in his recovery. He has been running, lifting, hitting, and playing long toss, and the Twins will continue to ramp him up throughout their homestand. The team has Thursday off and will send Pablo López, Joe Ryan, and Bailey Ober to the mound this weekend against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
