Two Men Injured in Separate Shootings in St. Paul
Two men were injured in shootings reported about 15 minutes apart, in separate parts of St. Paul Friday morning. According to preliminary information, the shootings are unrelated, as stated by police spokeswoman Alyssa Arcand. Both men sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and no one was under arrest in either case as of early Friday afternoon.
The first shooting occurred in the Payne-Phalen area, where officers were called to the scene just before 10:45 a.m. They found a man in the 800 block of Forest Street who had been shot in the leg during a carjacking. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, Arcand said.
Investigations Underway
Then, just before 11 a.m., a man arrived at Regions Hospital with a gunshot wound to his ankle. He reported being shot near Marion Street and Aurora Avenue in the Summit-University area. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the second shooting.
It’s worth noting that shootings and carjackings have been declining in St. Paul. According to police department data, there were 60 people injured in shootings as of Monday, and 18 carjackings. In comparison, as of the same date last year, 91 people had been hurt in shootings, and there had been 23 carjackings in St. Paul.
Community Safety
The decline in shootings and carjackings is a positive trend for the community. However, the recent incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of continued efforts to maintain public safety. The St. Paul Police Department’s data suggests that their strategies may be effective, but it’s crucial to remain vigilant and address the root causes of these crimes.
