Florida Family’s Shocking Encounter with an Unwanted Pool Guest
A Naples, Florida family got a surprise visit from an unexpected guest at the end of December – a nearly 8-foot alligator that decided to take a midnight dip in their swimming pool. The astonishing incident was captured on video, showcasing the entire process of capturing the gator and revealing its impressive size, measuring almost eight feet long. The video, taken by Rob Emhoff, provides a unique glimpse into the ordeal, from the initial discovery to the final removal of the alligator.
The Unexpected Discovery
According to Emhoff, the discovery was made when they let their puppy out to go to the bathroom at 1 a.m. on December 30, and they heard a splash in their pool. Upon investigating, they were shocked to see the massive shadow of the 8-foot alligator. Emhoff told Storyful that they immediately called the police, who then contacted wildlife control, and a Florida state alligator trapper was dispatched to remove the animal from the pool.
The trapper carefully approached the alligator, putting a snare around it and dragging it to the pool’s steps while taping the alligator’s mouth closed to minimize the threat.
The Removal Process
As the trapper worked to remove the alligator, it began rolling around to evade capture. The trapper explained that taping the alligator’s mouth shut was necessary to prevent it from posing a threat. The process was not without its challenges, as the alligator put up a fight, rolling around to try and get out of the snare. Eventually, the trapper successfully loaded the alligator into a trailer, where it was measured to be 7 feet, 11 inches long.
Just as the situation seemed under control, another smaller alligator in the trailer attempted to escape, prompting the trapper to quickly respond and secure the animal.

The incident was a shocking experience for the Emhoff family, who never expected to encounter an alligator in their swimming pool.
