A Virginia State Police trooper is being hailed as a hero after his daring rescue on Interstate 95, where he saved a driver from a burning vehicle. The incident occurred in Caroline County, Virginia, and has been widely reported as an exemplary display of bravery and quick thinking.
Incident Details
Sergeant S. Page, the trooper involved in the rescue, was deciding which direction to travel on I-95 when he chose to head northbound, following his instincts. This decision ultimately led him to come across a Tesla that had run off the road and caught fire after striking a tree.
According to Page, “Something told me to go northbound. So I was like ‘I’ll just go northbound.'” This split-second decision proved to be crucial, as Page was able to respond to the emergency situation promptly.
Upon arriving at the scene, Page found the Tesla’s doors locked, and the driver trapped inside. He described the situation, saying, “I ran up to the car, saw that the doors were still locked, and couldn’t get them unlocked or opened. I heard a guy in the car, and ended up having to bust the window down.” Page then cut the airbag and pulled the driver to safety.
Aftermath and Recognition
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was rescued thanks to Page’s swift and courageous actions. Page’s selfless act has been widely recognized, with many praising his heroism and dedication to duty.
As Page reflected on the incident, he noted, “If I hadn’t gone northbound, I don’t know if anyone else was going to stop.” This statement highlights the importance of his decision and the potential consequences if he had chosen differently.
