Tom Cruise’s Determination to Keep His Role in Mission: Impossible

Tom Cruise went to great lengths to ensure he kept his starring role in the 2011 film “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” according to his co-star, Simon Pegg. In a recent interview on Rob Lowe’s podcast, “Literally! with Rob Lowe,” Pegg revealed that Cruise flew to LA from Vancouver to confront then-Paramount CEO Brad Grey about rumors of Jeremy Renner replacing him in the franchise.

Cruise’s determination to maintain his position as IMF agent Ethan Hunt ultimately led to the rewriting of the script by director Christopher McQuarrie. Pegg praised Cruise’s influence in Hollywood, stating that he is “almost like a walking studio” with more power than anyone in the industry due to his longevity.

Cruise’s Influence in the Industry

Rob Lowe shared a story about the head of Paramount, who lives near him, and how Cruise’s requests cannot be denied. During the production of the last “Mission” film, Cruise reportedly requested an additional $30 million, which was granted due to his significant influence. This incident highlights Cruise’s authority in the film industry and his ability to shape the direction of his projects.

Cruise has starred in multiple “Mission: Impossible” films, including “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation,” and the latest installment, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” His co-star, Simon Pegg, has played Benji Dunn in six of the eight films in the franchise.

Cruise’s Future with the Franchise

There have been rumors that “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” will be Cruise’s last film as Ethan Hunt. However, when asked about his future with the franchise, Cruise deflected the question, stating that he wants audiences to enjoy the film and not focus on his potential departure. Cruise’s dedication to the franchise and his character is evident, and his influence will likely be felt in the industry for years to come.
