Tragic Incident at Wyoming, Minn., Emergency Room Results in Security Guard’s Death
A devastating incident occurred on Christmas Day at M Health Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, Minn., where a security guard was fatally injured by a patient. The guard, identified as 43-year-old Andrea Merrell of North Branch, succumbed to her injuries, leaving the community in shock.
Incident Details and Investigation
According to a press release from Wyoming Police Chief Neil Bauer, the incident took place at 5:23 p.m. on Thursday, when a 35-year-old Chisago City man allegedly assaulted Merrell, a security guard at the hospital. The suspect had been placed on a hold but managed to flee the emergency department, only to be apprehended by officers in the parking lot. The man reportedly resisted arrest, requiring a prolonged effort to subdue him. Merrell was rushed to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for treatment but sadly passed away due to the severity of her injuries.
Arrest and Condolences
The 35-year-old suspect is currently being held at the Chisago County Jail in connection with Merrell’s death. Chief Bauer expressed his deepest condolences to Merrell’s family, loved ones, and colleagues, as well as the staff of M Health Fairview Lakes Medical Center, stating, “It is with deep sadness that we confirm the hospital security guard involved in the incident… has passed away as a result of injuries sustained during the incident.” The Wyoming Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident, and the community is coming to terms with the loss of a dedicated security guard who tragically lost her life in the line of duty.
