USC Women’s Basketball Team Secures Comeback Victory Over Nebraska
The No. 17 USC women’s basketball team staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the previously unbeaten Nebraska Cornhuskers 74-66 on Monday in a thrilling Big Ten matchup. The game saw a pivotal performance from Londynn Jones, who scored all 13 of her points in the third quarter, helping the Trojans rally from a two-point halftime deficit.
Jones, who was quiet in the first half with just one shot attempt, exploded in the third quarter, making three consecutive three-pointers after teammate Jazzy Davidson’s rebound and score. This sparked an 11-0 run for the Trojans, turning the tables on Nebraska and establishing a 47-38 lead in under two minutes. Davidson and Kennedy Smith led the team with 17 points each, with Davidson also contributing eight rebounds and five blocks, and Smith adding nine rebounds and six assists.
Nebraska’s Late Surge Falls Short
Despite trailing 65-52 after three quarters, the Cornhuskers mounted a late surge, narrowing the deficit to 69-65 on a rebound basket by Britt Prince with 2:42 left. However, Kara Dunn’s basket and subsequent free throw with 59 seconds remaining helped secure the win for USC. Prince led Nebraska with 18 points and seven assists, while reserves Logan Nissley and Eliza Maupin scored 10 points each.
The first quarter saw Nebraska make half of its 10 shots, including two three-pointers, and go eight for eight at the free-throw line. The Trojans responded in the second quarter, with Dunn and Davidson combining for eight points in the first 2:47, including a 10-2 run that tied the game 22-22. Davidson’s score with two seconds left in the half brought USC within 38-36 at halftime.
