Northwestern Minnesota Man Charged with Murder After Fatal New Year’s Party Shooting
A tragic incident occurred in northwestern Minnesota, where a 26-year-old man, Myron Johanson, has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of 22-year-old Jorden Boehm. The shooting took place during a New Year’s celebration at Johanson’s home in Wolverton, Minnesota, on January 1.
According to court records, approximately 10 people attended the party, and witnesses reported that everyone was having a good time throughout the evening. However, the atmosphere took a deadly turn when Johanson began brandishing a black handgun, pointing it at others, and leaving it unattended on a table. Witnesses stated that Johanson would often take the gun out of its holster and “play with it,” creating a sense of unease among the partygoers.
Events Leading Up to the Fatal Shooting
Before the shooting, one witness reported seeing Johanson point the gun at another person’s face, only to have that person push it away. In another incident, Johanson pointed the gun at a witness’s head and asked if they trusted him. The witness responded with a firm “no,” prompting Johanson to laugh and rack a round into the chamber. These events suggest a disturbing pattern of behavior by Johanson, which ultimately led to the tragic outcome.
Witnesses then saw Johanson approach Boehm and place the gun under his chin, asking once again, “Do you trust me?” The next moment, the gun went off, and Boehm was seen bleeding from his neck. A witness reported that Johanson immediately exclaimed, “Oh (expletive), call 911,” as he held the gun and realized what had happened.
Investigation and Charges
Johanson met sheriff’s deputies at the scene and directed them to Boehm’s body, which was lying in a pool of blood. He also showed the deputies where his gun was located in his bedroom. Johanson is being represented by Fargo defense attorney Luke Heck, and his next hearing is scheduled for January 27 in Breckenridge.
