Reetz’s achievement is a testament to his tireless efforts to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students, teachers, and staff.

A Humbling Recognition

Reetz expressed his gratitude and humility upon receiving the award, stating, “It’s very humbling. I feel like a lot of the success I have in this position is due in large part to partnership. It’s other people that I work closely with that contribute great things — teachers, fellow administrators, our deans. Everyone works so hard to do such amazing things with our kids that it’s humbling to be recognized for something that I know is a reflection of a lot of people’s really great work.” This sentiment reflects Reetz’s commitment to collaborative leadership and his recognition of the importance of teamwork in achieving educational excellence.

The Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals selected Reetz from a pool of eight regional representatives, each representing a different part of the state. Reetz’s region includes 93 schools in the east metro, demonstrating the significant impact of his leadership on a large and diverse community.

A Career Marked by Dedication and Expertise

Reetz has spent approximately 19 years working in the Mounds View Public Schools district, holding various roles such as principal of Edgewood Middle School and Chippewa Middle School, professional learning specialist, instructional strategies facilitator, and special education teacher. His extensive experience and expertise in education have equipped him with a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges of school leadership.

Reetz’s approach to leadership is centered on the importance of student and teacher voice in decision-making, as well as his ability to galvanize people during times of crisis. He emphasized the need to listen, be curious, and understand the essence of a problem before seeking solutions. This thoughtful and inclusive approach has earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and the educational community.

Reetz’s educational background is equally impressive, with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth campus, a master’s degree in special education from Augsburg College, and an education specialist degree in leadership, policy, and administration from the University of St. Thomas. His academic credentials and professional experience make him an authoritative voice in education leadership.
