Severe Weather Prompts School Closures in St. Paul and Surrounding Areas

St. Paul Public Schools has announced the cancellation of classes on Friday due to the expected severe weather conditions. The National Weather Service forecasts temperatures to remain below -8 degrees, with wind chill values plummeting as low as -41 degrees. This decision prioritizes the safety and well-being of students, staff, and faculty.

Impact on School Activities and Programs

In addition to the cancellation of classes, Friday will not be an E-Learning Day. Discovery Club, Adult Basic Education, and ECFE will also be closed. Athletic events and after-school activities have been canceled, although exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. Varsity athletics may proceed as scheduled, subject to the discretion of the site administrator.

District officials have also canceled Thursday’s after-school programs and activities, including Extended Day Learning, Flipside, and Middle School Athletics. However, Discovery Club will remain open until all children have been picked up. Other Community Education evening activities and classes will proceed as scheduled unless otherwise communicated.

Other School Districts Follow Suit

West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan School District has also announced the cancellation of classes on Friday due to the extreme cold. The district has stated that students will not participate in e-learning, and all before- and after-school activities, including Community Education classes, have been canceled. High school activities will be determined on a case-by-case basis, with coaches and advisors providing further information.

Roseville area schools have also canceled classes, as well as all activities and athletics, for Friday due to the weather conditions. These decisions reflect the commitment of local school districts to prioritize the safety and well-being of their students and staff.
