Uncovering a Secret Bunker: The Alarming Discovery at a MAGA Activist’s California Home
Shasta County authorities embarked on an investigation into a suspected illegal marijuana farm, but their inquiry took a dramatic turn when they stumbled upon a massive stash of illegal firearms and a secret underground bunker on the property of Michael Jay Kamfolt, a 40-year-old MAGA activist. The discovery has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the potential threats to public safety posed by such hidden operations.
According to reports, Kamfolt was arrested on January 20 after members of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) discovered the bunker and seized an array of illegally possessed weapons, including three AR-15-style assault rifles, a sawed-off shotgun, and over 10,000 rounds of ammunition, while serving a search warrant at his Anderson home. The suspect is no longer in custody, as per county records.
Among the seized weapons were a sawed-off shotgun, three AR-15-style assault rifles, one with an obliterated serial number, and two firearms that were reported stolen, one in 2016 and the other in 1978, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Concerns Over Public Safety
CHP Northern Division Chief John Pinoli emphasized that the operation went far beyond an illegal grow, stating, “The combination of a hidden bunker and an alarming cache of illegal firearms and ammunition highlights the threat posed to public safety.” The discovery has raised concerns about the potential risks associated with such hidden operations and the need for increased vigilance in the community.
Kamfolt, a well-known conservative activist, had previously shown up at protests and county Board of Supervisors meetings, raising concerns about voting fraud, as reported by the Shasta Scout. His association with Kevin Crye, a county supervisor and MAGA supporter, has also been noted. Crye, a pro-Trump election denier, survived a recall effort by just 50 votes in March 2024.

Located at the base of a 100-foot water drainage pipe, the sprawling secret cavern contained a home gym, armchair, and television, as well as a Bennington flag, which was among the various historical American flags carried by supporters of President Trump during the January 6 riot.
Investigation and Charges
During the search of Kamfolt’s property, officers seized 13 firearms, four soft body armor vests, and 30 high-capacity magazines. Two of the guns were reported stolen, one in 2016 and the other in 1978, according to the CHP. Kamfolt was arrested on suspicion of an array of misdemeanor and felony weapons-related violations, including converting a firearm into a machine gun, manufacturing a ghost gun, possession
