St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her Meets with White House Border Czar to Address ICE Surge

St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her met with the White House border czar, Tom Homan, on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing ICE surge in Minnesota. The meeting comes after President Donald Trump appointed Homan to lead the mission in the state, following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by federal officers in Minneapolis on Saturday.

Mayor Her expressed her concerns about the harm caused by the ICE surge in St. Paul, emphasizing the importance of immigrants and refugees to the community. She stated, “I reinforced the importance of immigrants and refugees to the fabric of our community.” Her also appreciated the opportunity to share her concerns with Homan and his team, saying she looks “forward to seeing concrete next steps as” Homan “meets with local officials to de-escalate the situation in St. Paul.”

Building Trust and Ensuring Accountability

Homan’s meeting with Mayor Her and other local officials, including Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, aims to build trust and ensure accountability for federal actions. Gov. Walz reiterated Minnesota’s priorities, including impartial investigations into the Minneapolis shootings, a reduction in federal forces, and an end to the campaign of retribution against the state. Mayor Her sees the changing leadership and opening lines of communication as “promising steps toward building trust, ensuring accountability to federal actions, and finding a meaningful resolution to end this surge.”

The situation in Minnesota has sparked concerns about the use of federal force and the impact on local communities. As the situation continues to unfold, it is essential to prioritize transparency, accountability, and community engagement. For more information on this developing story, visit Here
