The high school football season is in full swing, and the Southland’s top teams are battling it out for supremacy. In this week’s rankings, St. John Bosco takes the top spot, followed closely by Sierra Canyon and Mission Viejo. Here’s a look at the top 25 teams in the Southland, along with their records, recent results, and upcoming games.

Top 5 Teams: A Mix of Familiar Faces and Surprising Newcomers

The top 5 teams in this week’s rankings are a mix of familiar faces and surprising newcomers. St. John Bosco, ranked number 1, defeated San Mateo Serra 42-0 and will face Honolulu St. Louis on Friday. Sierra Canyon, ranked number 2, defeated Downey 49-7 and will take on Orange Lutheran at Orange Coast College on Thursday. Mission Viejo, ranked number 3, defeated San Diego Lincoln 34-24 and will travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee to face McCallie on Friday.

Corona Centennial, ranked number 4, pulled off a surprising upset over Mater Dei, winning 43-36. Mater Dei, ranked number 5, will look to bounce back from the loss when they face Las Vegas Bishop Gorman on Friday. Santa Margarita, ranked number 6, defeated Oaks Christian 44-14 and will face Bishop Gorman on September 27.

Middle of the Pack: Teams Looking to Make a Move

The middle of the pack is where things start to get interesting. Teams like Orange Lutheran, Los Alamitos, and Vista Murrieta are looking to make a move up the rankings. Orange Lutheran, ranked number 7, defeated Gardena Serra 35-14 and will face Sierra Canyon on Thursday. Los Alamitos, ranked number 8, defeated St. Paul 48-14 and will take on El Cajon Granite Hills on Friday.

Vista Murrieta, ranked number 9, defeated Bishop Amat 29-10 and will face Beaumont on Friday. Yorba Linda, ranked number 10, defeated Esperanza 35-7 and will take on Tustin on Friday. These teams will be looking to string together some wins and make a push for the top 5.

Bottom of the Rankings: Teams Looking to Turn Things Around

The bottom of the rankings is where teams are looking to turn things around. San Juan Hills, ranked number 15, lost to Rockwall, Texas Rockwall-Heath 36-24 and will face Mira Costa on Friday. Gardena Serra, ranked number 16, lost to Orange Lutheran 35-14 and will take on Oaks Christian on Friday.
