Sen. Cassidy, whose vote received RFK Jr. his job, lastly begins to make amends

Date:

Senator Cassidy Takes a Stand Against RFK Jr.’s Anti-Vaccine Agenda

In a dramatic turn of events, Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.), the chair of the Senate Health Committee, has started to make amends for his earlier vote to confirm Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the Secretary of Health and Human Services. During a recent hearing, Cassidy took steps to hold Kennedy accountable for his actions, particularly with regards to the firing of the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the subsequent resignations of three top CDC officials.

A Change of Heart for Cassidy

Cassidy, a physician and vaccine supporter, had faced criticism for his vote to confirm Kennedy, who has been a vocal advocate for anti-vaccine policies. However, during the hearing, Cassidy showed a willingness to challenge Kennedy’s actions, particularly with regards to the CDC. He expressed concern over the potential alteration of childhood vaccination recommendations, which could have severe consequences for public health.

The hearing took a dramatic turn when Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) accused the former CDC director, Susan Monarez, of lying about her conversation with Kennedy. Mullin claimed that the conversation was recorded, but it was later revealed that no such recording existed. Cassidy was quick to call out Mullin’s mistake, stating that if a recording did not exist, he should retract his line of questioning.

The Importance of Vaccines

Cassidy, a liver specialist, also took the opportunity to explain the importance of vaccines, particularly the hepatitis B vaccine. He noted that the vaccine has been instrumental in reducing the number of newborn infections, from 20,000 per year to fewer than 20 per year. Cassidy emphasized that the vaccine is necessary to protect children from the virus, which can be transmitted from mother to child during birth.

Cassidy’s comments were a clear rebuke of Kennedy’s anti-vaccine agenda, and a step in the right direction for public health. As a senator with a medical background, Cassidy’s expertise and experience make his voice a credible one in the debate over vaccine policy.
