Tragic Incident at St. Paul Bar Results in Customer’s Death
A devastating turn of events has unfolded in St. Paul, Minnesota, where a 33-year-old man has succumbed to his injuries after being assaulted outside a local bar. The incident, which occurred over the weekend, has led to a security guard being charged with manslaughter. According to the criminal complaint, the victim was diagnosed with a “devastating brain bleed” and was on life support before passing away at the hospital on Monday night.
The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office initially charged Jose Eucario Conejo Marquez, 28, of North St. Paul, with first-degree assault on Monday. However, the charges were amended to first-degree manslaughter while committing fifth-degree assault on Tuesday. Marquez allegedly punched the customer in the head, causing him to fall and hit his head in the parking lot of the Blues Saloon at 1638 Rice St.
Alleged Events Leading to the Tragedy
A woman, who was on a first date with the victim, reported that he became jealous after multiple men hit on her, leading to them being kicked out of the bar. Surveillance video footage showed the man and woman walking into the parking lot, where the man pointed at the woman. Marquez, who was working as a security guard, stepped between them and punched the customer in the head, shoving him into the parking lot.
Marquez allegedly swung another fist at the customer, missing him, and then “closed in” and punched him again, causing the customer to fall to the ground. The security guard claimed that the man was drunk and being “belligerent,” and that he was frustrated with the man’s behavior inside the bar and his verbal aggression towards his date.
