T.J. Oshie joins ESPN’s NHL protection and can name the Olympics on NBC

T.J. Oshie Embarks on a New Career in Television

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — T.J. Oshie, the former Warroad High and UND star forward, has announced his retirement from a 16-year NHL career and is now joining ESPN as an in-studio NHL analyst for the 2025-26 season. This new chapter in his career marks an exciting transition for the hockey legend.

Oshie’s journey into television broadcasting began during the playoffs last season when he joined ESPN for a night during the conference finals. His experience and expertise in the sport make him an excellent fit for the role. Recently, he appeared on ESPN’s opening night coverage, and he took to Twitter/X to express his enthusiasm, stating, “My dad fell asleep to @SportsCenter almost every night of my childhood. He would have loved this!”

Oshie’s Upcoming Assignments

In addition to his work with ESPN, Oshie will also be joining NBC’s team to call the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. This major assignment will see him working alongside play-by-play announcers Brendan Burke and Chris Vosters as an analyst. Oshie’s experience playing in the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, where he famously scored four shootout goals to help the Americans beat the Russians in a pool play game, will undoubtedly bring valuable insight to his commentary.

Oshie’s impressive hockey career includes playing three years at Warroad High from 2002-05, winning state championships as a sophomore and a senior, and moving on to play three years at UND from 2005-08, reaching three NCAA Frozen Furs. He played 1,010 NHL regular-season games for the St. Louis Blues and Washington Capitals, winning the Stanley Cup with the Capitals in 2018. His day with the Cup in Warroad remains a cherished memory for the community.

The 2026 Olympic Games, scheduled to take place from Feb. 6-22, will feature NHL players for the first time since 2014.
