Unseasonable Weather Brings Flooding to Northeast and Snow to North Carolina
Parts of New York City flooded on Thursday afternoon as heavy rain blasted the Northeast. Flash flood alerts were in effect across the boroughs and down into New Jersey.
The National Weather Service said a cold front that’s been keeping skies gloomy dropped snow levels down to about 5,000 feet Thursday morning — plenty low for Mount Mitchell at 6,684 feet and its surrounding area.
First Snow of the Season
The first snow of the 2025-26 winter season fell atop Mt. Mitchell on North Carolina on Oct. 29, 2025.
The National Weather Service office based in Greenville, South Carolina said every rain gauge in their area reported at least one inch of rain since Sunday, with many of the mountainous areas getting 2-4 inches, and a few spots totaling 6 inches.
The clearing skies are a welcome change for the region, which has been experiencing a soggy end to October. The cold front that brought the snow is finally moving out, leaving behind a drier Halloween. For more information on the weather, visit Here
