Peloton Recalls Nearly 878,000 Exercise Bikes Due to Fall Hazards
Peloton, a leading exercise equipment manufacturer, has issued a recall of nearly 878,000 of its exercise bikes across the United States and Canada. The recall is due to a potential fall hazard caused by the products’ seat posts breaking during use. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, the recall affects certain “Peloton Original Series Bike+” units with model number PL02.
Reason for the Recall
The recall was prompted by three reports of seat posts breaking on these bikes in the U.S., resulting in two fall injuries. Although there have been no reported incidents in Canada, both consumer safety watchdogs and Peloton are urging owners of these bikes to stop using them and contact the company for a free seat post replacement. The affected bikes were sold at various retailers, including Peloton and Dick’s Sporting Goods stores, as well as online marketplaces like Amazon and eBay, from 2020 through April 2025 for approximately $2,495.
Response from Peloton
A Peloton spokesperson stated that “the integrity of our products and our Members’ well-being are our top priorities.” The company has committed to providing redesigned seat post replacements to all affected Bike+ users. Peloton’s website offers information to help determine if a bike is part of the recall and provides instructions on how to install the new seat post if needed. The impacted Bike+ units have serial numbers beginning with the letter “T,” with about 833,000 units sold in the U.S. and another 44,800 in Canada.
Previous Recalls and Improvements
This is not the first time Peloton has faced issues with its exercise bikes. In 2023, the company recalled 2 million of its original Bikes (with model number PL01) due to similar reports of breaking seat posts and related injuries. The Bike+ products recalled this week were manufactured before that 2023 recall, between December 2019 and July 2022. However, Peloton has since rolled out its redesigned seat post, which is not affected by this recall. According to the company, Bike+ products made since mid-2023 have the new seat post and are not impacted.
