A Blast from the Past: Alexander Ramsey High School’s Class of 1975 Reunites
On a sunny Friday, August 22, 2025, a group of enthusiastic graduates from Alexander Ramsey High School’s class of 1975 gathered outside their alma mater, now known as Roseville Area High School. The occasion was their 50th reunion, and they were eager to take a tour of their former school and reminisce about old times. Jim Stern, a counselor at the school, welcomed the group and led them on a journey down memory lane.
The class of 1975 had a special reason to celebrate – they were finally going to see the time capsule they had buried 50 years ago. The capsule, which was initially thought to be lost after school renovations, was discovered accidentally around their 40th reunion. It contained a treasure trove of memorabilia, including newspapers, magazines, a TV Guide, and even a bottle of Italian liqueur. Each of the 550 students had also written letters to their future selves or friends, which were returned to them at the reunion.
A Trip Down Memory Lane
As the group toured the school, they were amazed at how much it had changed. The gym and some of the hallways were still recognizable, but much of the school was unrecognizable to them. They remembered the designated smoking area for students, which no longer exists, and the freedom to sign themselves out of class, a privilege that is no longer available to students today. Despite the changes, the group was happy to see that some things remained the same, such as the school’s emphasis on arts and extracurricular activities.
The tour was a chance for the classmates to catch up, joke around, and recall old pranks, including at least one streaking incident. They visited the band room, the auditorium, which was completed after they graduated, the auto shop, and the media center. Diane Kinderwater, a classmate from New Mexico, was happy to see that the school still provided many opportunities for students to engage in arts and extracurricular activities, just as it had during her time there.
Reflections and Reunions
As the tour came to an end, Jim Stern held up his bullhorn once again to address the group. He joked that they had been much better behaved than the class of 1974, which had also taken a tour of the school. The classmates laughed and joked about who would plan their 75th reunion. Suzi Ramsey Fiedler recalled her father’s advice – “Reunions – don’t miss the 50th” – and how it had proven to be true. The 50th reunion was a time for the classmates to reconnect and celebrate their lives, without comparing themselves to others.
