Maplewood Gunman Sentenced for Shooting at Car
A St. Paul man, Muhnee Jaleel Bailey, has been sentenced to six years and three months in prison for his involvement in a drive-by shooting in Maplewood. The incident occurred on April 16, when Bailey fired a fully automatic handgun at a car, wounding a passenger and causing two children nearby to cower in fear. Bailey pleaded guilty to the charges in Ramsey County District Court.
According to the criminal complaint, surveillance video showed Bailey getting out of a Chevrolet Malibu and firing three volleys of shots at a gold sedan. Police found 18 spent casings in the parking lot, and video also showed a 10-year-old girl and another juvenile trying to get into an apartment building while cowering in fear. A 22-year-old passenger of the gold sedan was treated for gunshot wounds to his shoulder and leg at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Muhnee Jaleel Bailey, 24, was identified as the suspect after law enforcement discovered the license plate on the Chevrolet Malibu. He was pulled over by police on April 22 in Minneapolis and was found to be on release from the Federal Bureau of Prisons to a halfway house. Bailey had previously pleaded guilty to a federal charge of possession of a firearm as a felon in March 2023.
