Wisconsin Woman Who Attempted to Kill Classmate to Please Slender Man Goes Missing
A 23-year-old woman from Wisconsin, Morgan Geyser, who was involved in a notorious stabbing case in 2014, has gone missing after cutting off her monitoring bracelet and leaving a group home in Madison, Wisconsin. Geyser had been living in the group home after being released from a psychiatric hospital earlier this year, where she had spent seven years undergoing treatment for mental illness.
Background of the Case
In 2014, Geyser and her friend, Anissa Weier, lured their classmate, Payton Leutner, to a park in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times. The attack was motivated by the girls’ desire to please the fictional character Slender Man, a horror figure they believed would harm their families if they didn’t carry out the attack. Both Geyser and Weier were 12 years old at the time of the incident.
Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide in 2017, but claimed she wasn’t responsible due to her mental illness. She was committed to a psychiatric hospital for 40 years, while Weier pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide and was committed to 25 years in a mental hospital. Weier was released in 2021, after agreeing to live with her father and wear a GPS monitor.
Current Situation
Geyser was last seen on Saturday evening with an adult acquaintance, and police have released a recent image of her captured on security video. The Madison Police Department is currently searching for Geyser, who is considered missing and potentially a danger to herself or others. The incident has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the mental health system and the support provided to individuals with a history of violent behavior.
According to experts, Geyser’s case highlights the importance of providing adequate treatment and support to individuals with mental illness, particularly those who have committed violent crimes. It also underscores the need for close monitoring and supervision to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
