State of Emergency Declared
Washington State Gov. Bob Ferguson declared a state of emergency as a strong atmospheric river continues to bring heavy rain to the Pacific Northwest. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood warning for much of the western half of the state, which has received over a foot of rain. As a result, mandatory evacuations have been issued, and numerous rescues and major road closures have been reported.
According to a Twitter post by Malchow, the Tokul Creek near her home rose 2 to 3 inches, combining with the Snoqualmie River to create the hazardous conditions. Gov. Ferguson announced that 300 National Guard members would be active and available starting Thursday to assist those in need.
