Tragedy Strikes Brown University: Two Students Killed in Shooting

A devastating shooting occurred at Brown University on Saturday, resulting in the loss of two lives. The victims, Ella Cook and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, were both students at the university. The incident took place in a classroom on the university’s campus in Providence, Rhode Island, and left at least nine others wounded.

According to authorities, the shooting happened on Saturday evening, and an investigation is currently underway. Photos and videos of a possible suspect have been released, and a reward is being offered as the manhunt continues. Despite the ongoing investigation, local police have advised that there is no immediate threat to the university or the local community.

Victim Profiles: Ella Cook and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was one of the victims. She was vice president of Brown’s College Republicans and was described as a devoted Christian and a committed conservative. Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth of Alabama paid tribute to Cook, stating that she represented the best of Alabama and that her bright future was ended too soon.

Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, an 18-year-old freshman, was the other victim. He was studying biochemistry and neuroscience and was known for his sharp intellect, kind heart, and quiet willingness to help others. Umurzokov’s sister, Samira, said that he was helping a friend during a review session when he was shot. The American Uzbekistan Association described Umurzokov as a humble and compassionate individual who was loved and respected by those around him.

Reaction from the Community

The Brown University community is in shock and mourning following the tragedy. Many students visited a makeshift memorial to pay their respects to the victims before leaving for winter break. Student Jack Cox described the situation as “heartbreaking” and said that the community is in shock. The university has offered support and counseling services to students and staff affected by the shooting.

The incident has also sparked an outpouring of tributes and condolences from politicians and community leaders. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed her condolences to the families and friends of the victims, while Sen. Katie Boyd Britt mourned the loss of one of Alabama’s own. The U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Jonathan Henick, also extended his condolences to Umurzokov’s family and friends.
