A Historic Performance
The last Philadelphia player to achieve this feat was Mike Schmidt, who hit four home runs against the Chicago Cubs in April 1976. Schwarber’s performance is the third four-homer game of the season, following Eugenio Suárez and Nick Kurtz. His power surge began with a solo shot in the first off Cal Quantrill, sending a 2-1 curveball into the seats in right field.
Schwarber continued his impressive performance, hitting a three-run, opposite-field drive off Austin Cox in the fifth, and a three-run shot to right off Wander Suero in the eighth. The “M-V-P! M-V-P!” chants from Phillies fans in the fifth were a testament to his outstanding performance.
Schwarber’s achievement is a significant milestone in his career, solidifying his position as a top player in the league. His impressive stats and record-breaking performance have earned him recognition and admiration from fans and critics alike.
