California Food Manufacturer Recalls Thousands of Cases of Salad Dressing Due to Potential Contamination

A California-based food manufacturer, Ventura Foods, has issued a recall of thousands of cases of salad dressing distributed to major retailers across 27 states due to potential contamination from “foreign objects.” The recall was initiated after one of the company’s ingredient suppliers recalled a batch of onion granules that may contain “black plastic planting material.”

The affected products were sold at various retailers, including Costco and Publix, under different brand names. Fortunately, none of the 42 locations where the product was sold were in California. The recall includes several types of salad dressing, such as Creamy Poblano Avocado Ranch Dressing and Dip, Ventura Caesar Dressing, and Hidden Valley, Buttermilk Ranch, among others.

Reason for the Recall and Affected Products

The recall was prompted by the supplier’s recall of onion granules, which were used in some of Ventura Foods’ dressings. The company took immediate action to remove all potentially impacted products from the marketplace, urging its customers, distributors, and retailers to review their inventory and stop the sale and distribution of the affected products. The FDA issued its initial recall alert in early November, and Costco also alerted its customers, offering a full refund for the returned products.

The affected products had sell-by dates between October 17 and November 9. The types of salad dressing recalled include:

  • Creamy Poblano Avocado Ranch Dressing and Dip
  • Ventura Caesar Dressing
  • Pepper Mill Regal Caesar Dressing
  • Pepper Mill Creamy Caesar Dressing
  • Caesar Dressing served at Costco Service Deli
  • Caesar Dressing served at Costco Food Court
  • Hidden Valley, Buttermilk Ranch

Commitment to Safety and Quality

Ventura Foods has emphasized its commitment to the safety and quality of its products. According to company spokesperson Eniko Bolivar-Murphy, “The safety of our products is and will always be our top priority.” The company’s prompt action to initiate the recall and remove the potentially contaminated products from the market demonstrates its dedication to ensuring the well-being of its customers.

For more information on the recall, customers can visit the FDA’s website or contact Ventura Foods directly. The company’s swift response to the potential contamination issue reflects its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety in its products.
