Major Methamphetamine Bust in South Africa: $20 Million Worth of Illicit Drugs Seized
Officials in South Africa have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against illicit drugs, discovering a massive methamphetamine lab on a farm in the Mpumalanga province. According to a news release from the South African Police Service, the lab was found to be producing approximately $20 million worth of crystal meth. The operation, which was busted after a tip-off about suspicious activities on the farm, has led to the arrest of five North American citizens and a South African farm caretaker.
The South African Police Service received a tip-off about a strange chemical smell emanating from the premises, which prompted them to investigate further. Upon searching the farm, they found precursor chemicals used to make drugs, manufacturing equipment, a pellet gun loaded with blanks, and three live 9 millimeter rounds held by the farm caretaker. The police also discovered about $20 million worth of crystal meth, packed in buckets and lunchboxes, stored in freezers.

The farm caretaker, a South African national, was arrested and faces possible charges for possession of ammunition.
